Princely Treasures: European Masterpieces 1600‐1800 from the Victoria and Albert Museum The last stimulating session in the Princely Treasures Masterclass series, hosted by the highly entertaining Dr Gerard Vaughan, Director of the National Gallery of Victoria. Lecture commences in the Art Gallery main concourse and concludes in the Princely Treasures exhibition space.
Friday 18 November 7pm Dr Gerard Vaughan, Director of the National Gallery of Victoria Passion for the antique: sex, lies and theft in late 18TH century Europe. A glimpse of the underbelly of neo‐classical taste and the antics of these passionate collectors and their dealers, and how they fulfilled their desire for objects as demand far outstripped supply. The search for antiquities often resulted in rampant forgeries, deception and criminal behaviour.
Lecture Series Cost: a current same day Princely Treasures ticket or a multi‐pass ticket ($55) is required for admission: $20 per ticket or $16 concession.
